LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) comprises a family of enhancements to the LTE standard that promise to increase data rates and maximize spectrum efficiency through the implementation of new network technologies. Many of these new technologies present significant deployment challenges for the carrier, including greatly increased backhaul capacity and new requirements for inter-cell timing control and synchronization.
Distributed Antenna System (DAS) technology offers the tools needed to enable these new features, in a way that significantly mitigates the challenges and costs associated with deploying an LTE-A network. In this article, the author will discuss the role of DAS in addressing LTE-A deployment challenges.
