Channel sounding for 5G/mm-wave

The millimeter-wave frequency band is seen as a good candidate for future 5G mobile radio networks. The availability of multiple Gigahertz of bandwidth promises to be an answer to the ever increasing data rates in access and backhaul links. Successful design of millimeter-wave mobile communication systems will rely on pro-found knowledge and modeling of the outdoor radio channel. Comparing to the legacy frequency bands, the knowledge at millimeter-wave frequencies is still very limited. The talk gives an overview over current extensive measurement campaigns of the 10 and 60 GHz mobile outdoor channel in urban and rural environments. Recent results .with respect to time-variance and the evaluation of basic channel parameters are presented. Finally a novel hybrid modeling approach useful for link and system level simulation is discussed
